Tennis elbow & other arm issues

Racquet Choice

If you are suffering from any kind of neck, shoulder, arm or wrist pain, the first place I would look, would be your frame.

I would avoid light, stiff, head heavy frames, as they offer very little in the way of absorption from ball impact.

There are numerous frames that can contribute to injuries and many frames that are 'arm friendly' (too many to mention)

Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss frames that can help reduce and even stop painful tennis.

Play-testing

I would also note that play-testing numerous frames, can also be detrimental to the body, as the body adjusts over a short period of time to the new frame.  I would advise to play-test a frame, using only 60% power for the first few days, gradually increasing the power as your body adjusts.

Multiple Frames that differ

We all love tennis racquets, maybe a little too much! How many of you have a tennis bagwith  different frames, from different makes and models, with different weights and balances? The Swiss Army frame has not been invented yet, so it's something that should be avoided.  Find your frame, purchase a few, tinker with it till your dialled in and clone the one you like the best.

String Choice

Whether you are a tennis pro, a weekend warrior of just suffer whilst swinging, your racquet does't have to hurt. There are many string manufacturers that have developed string technology to help reduce injury whilst playing.

Below are a short list of strings based on comfort, price, durability and performance. The number before the string name is the elasticity rating, Starting at #99 being the softest & #981 being the stiffest. Then the string name, the gauge, they also have a number in brackets, which is their tension loss (in LBS after a few minutes of play). The lower the #, the better their ability to hold tension. Finally the restring price.

If there is a string that you believe should be added to this list, please email me so I can share that with fellow sufferers.

Tecnifibre Triax 1.33mm

Triax is part of Tecnifibre’s new string segment “Multifilament Poly-Fusion”. These strings are a unique offering from Tecnifibre and are used to create a real hybrid string, rather than the traditional setup of one piece multifilament and one piece polyester.

Triax is the first string made with co-polyester fibres inside. These fibres make the multifilament string firmer and greatly increase its durability. TRIAX is aimed at advanced and expert players using powerful frames who are regular breakers and require higher control, spin and arm protection and greater durability but also comfort.

152) Iso-Speed Professional Classic 17ga (15.06)

£28.00

(all prices are for strings & labour)

Iso-Speed Professional

Great choice for players dealing with arm problems.

Tennis Elbow Issues

Iso-Speed Professional 17 is composed of a blend of polyolefins (polyolefin is the same material used in the base of snow ski construction); narrow pre-stretched ribbons are twisted under tension and heat, then welded together. Through a unique patented system, each set of string is factory pre-stretched and locked under tension on an industry exclusive 40ft. reel. Iso-Speed Professional 17 retains all the characteristics of Iso-Speed Control 16g. but offers an option to players seeking additional "pop"and/or spin enhancement. Iso-Speed Professional is very close in construction and feel to the now discontinued Head Pro Fibre string, which was also 100% polyolefin.

  • Gauge: 17 (1.20mm)
  • Benefits: Ribbons of polyolefin are wrapped together, providing similar benefits of multifilament nylon strings. The result is good dampening and a slightly muted feel. This is a less lively string than multifilaments such as Wilson Sensation NXT or Tecnifibre NRG2 SPL, but maintains good durability for a 17 gauge string.
