1. String Type
Very expensive and susceptible to the weather. If you play outdoors and all year round and are playing within a budget, then probably best avoid. (Although it is, by far, the kindest string for the body and offers unmatched performance) You can reduce the cost by using it within a Hybrid combination.
Probably the safest choice for the youth. Offers a wide range to cater for every budget. A variety of textures to add spin. Comes in many gauges and colours. Not the most durable but you should be looking for comfort over durability.
Even within the catagory of 'softer Polyesters' there are 'Soft' or 'Touch' versions of the string. With brands like: Babolat, Solinco, Volkl, Head, Luxilon and others all understanding the importance of offering more comfortable options.
Are a fantastic way to find the best of both worlds, enabling you to utilise the characteristics of one type of string and alter the feel using another string.
Can be very cost effective and has a wide choice range.
2. String Gauge
(In general, I would recommend using the thinner gauge when using Polyester strings 1.15mm to 1.20mm and avoid Durable Polyester and Kevlar's
3. Tension
Tension is one of those things that you have to experiment with to find what works for the player. A good place to start for a youngster is on the lower end of the frames required range and adjust accordingly (if required) You can also string outside the recommended range (it is only a guide)
